6 Tips for Eating Cheap on the Go

It’s no secret that eating out can be expensive. Make dining out a special treat for only special occasions and forget about those icky fast food restaurants. Eating out is very convenient but with a little bit of planning and preparation here are some quick tips for eating cheap on the go.

  1. Pack your lunch. The average person spends $10-$15 a day on eating lunch out during work! Bring your lunch to work and you can save almost $4,000 a year! Packing a yummy and frugal lunch will help satisfy you and your checkbook.
  2. Pack your kid’s lunch. Your kids will love the care you took to prepare their healthy and frugal sack lunches.
  3. Always carry snacks with you and in your vehicle. Instead of stopping at the fast food restaurant or the convenience store for that morning or afternoon snack, simply take out your already prepared snack and enjoy!
  4. Pack a picnic lunch. Make a fun day out even more fun by packing a picnic lunch. Throw in a blanket and enjoy the nice weather as you spend some quality time with your family.
  5. Stop at the grocery store. Forgo the fast food restaurants and run in your grocery store to pick up some deli meat and fruit for a quick meal or snack! In addition, many supermarkets in the summer will have hot dog or BBQ stands that offer some great food for very cheap!
  6. When traveling, rent a room with a kitchen. Dining out on vacation can be very expensive and you can help curb this cost by renting a hotel or condo that has a kitchen.
