10 Ways to Save Money by Visiting a Library
You can save a lot of money by simply visiting your local library on a regular basis. Not only is going to the library a fun activity for the whole family, you can bring home tons of stuff to keep you and the kids entertained and occupied.
- Borrow books instead of borrowing them. If you and your family love to read then you are probably paying quite a bit of money to buy books for everyone. Pocket that cash by checking out the same books at the library.
- Check out DVDs and videos from the library instead of at your local video rental store. Most libraries offer videos that can be checked out and watched – for no fee at all.
- Listen to the newest tunes by checking out the latest CDs from the library. This works great as a “try it before you buy it” option. I have bought many CDs I ended up not really liking – if I would have checked them out from the library first I could have saved a ton of money!
- Spend a hot summer or cold winter afternoon escaping into the library. Find a private corner and dip into a good book. It’s a great time to unwind and escape and it’s all free.
- Check out how-to books and videos that will help you do things yourself instead of paying to have them done. Find out how to repair the leaky faucet yourself, sew new kitchen curtains and grill fish just like the fish you get at your favorite restaurant.
- Give up your subscription to your favorite magazines and newspapers and read them at the library instead.
- Attend an event at your local library. Depending on your library, you may have a few monthly or even daily events for you and your family. These can range from movies to book groups to reading programs.
- Check to see if your local library has a coupon swap box. A coupon swap box is where the library places all the coupons from the local papers into the box and asks that patrons place a coupon into the box when they take one out. Not all libraries offer these and my experience has been that smaller libraries tend to have these more than larger ones.
- Find books that will help you learn how to save even more money! Check out books on frugal living and personal finance that will teach you how to save even more money and control your spending.
- Use the computers at your library to check your email and browse the Internet. If you don’t use the Internet much then get rid of your subscription at home and go to the library to do your surfing instead.
